Ministerial and multilateral delegates convene during the Horn of Africa Borderlands Roadmap session in Washington, D.C.

Opal Ridge Partners joined ministers, central bank governors, multilateral institutions and private-sector leaders at the 2025 IMF & World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C. — a week of high-level dialogue on sovereign finance, regional integration and the investment agenda shaping East Africa and the Horn.

Horn of Africa Borderlands Roadmap

A centerpiece of the week was the HoA Borderlands Roadmap session, convening the World Bank, IFC, the United Kingdom, and delegations from Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya. Discussions focused on unlocking cross-border trade corridors, resilient infrastructure, and blended finance structures capable of channelling long-term capital into historically under-served regions.

Sovereign & Private Sector Dialogue

Sessions convened by the Ministry of Finance and Central Bank of Somalia addressed macroeconomic reform, debt sustainability, and the deepening of domestic capital markets. Opal Ridge participated in engagements with development finance institutions, sovereign investors and multilateral agencies exploring co-investment structures for East African growth businesses.

Our Perspective

Convenings such as the IMF/WBG Annual Meetings reinforce the case for patient, partnership-driven capital in the region. From Nairobi to Mogadishu, Djibouti to Addis Ababa, the fundamentals — demographics, urbanisation, digital adoption, and regional trade integration — continue to compound. Opal Ridge remains committed to backing exceptional operators building the businesses that will define East Africa’s next decade.
